Student Electronic Devices
MO Senate Bill 68 and Marshfield Schools
To minimize distractions, support student success, and comply with Missouri Senate Bill 68, Marshfield R-I Schools will implement a cell phone-free school day beginning with the 2025–2026 school year.
Under this policy, students will not be permitted to use Personal Electronic Devices during the school day. Devices must be turned off, stored in backpacks, and kept out of sight for the entirety of the school day.
While this policy aligns with state law, it also reflects Marshfield’s ongoing commitment to providing a focused, distraction-free learning environment. Research continues to show that limiting access to cell phones during school hours improves academic performance, reduces social pressures, and supports students’ overall well-being.
What is considered a Personal Electronic Device?
Personal Electronic Devices include, but are not limited to:
-
Cell phones
-
Tablets
-
Gaming devices
-
Smartwatches
-
Headphones and earbuds
-
Any other electronic device used for communication, entertainment, or internet access
How will this policy be enforced?
Students who violate the policy will be reminded of the law and warned.
Repeat offenders will be asked to turn their device in to the office.
Additional consequences may apply, as outlined in the Student Handbook.
Continued violations may result in loss of personal device privileges while on campus.
Communication During the School Day
We understand that communication between families and students is important. If you need to contact your child during the school day, please contact the school office directly.
Please note: a student security code must be provided in order for office staff to relay messages.
Thank you for your continued partnership in creating an engaging and supportive environment for all learners. We appreciate your support as we work together to give our students the best opportunity to succeed.
