Extreme Temperatures
Cold Weather Advisory: Dressing for Winter Conditions
As colder temperatures approach, it’s essential that students dress appropriately to stay warm. We recommend the following:
- Wear Multiple Layers: Layering clothing helps retain body heat.
- Accessories Matter: Hats, scarves, gloves, boots, and wind-resistant coats are important for keeping warm.
To minimize the risk of cold-related health issues, limit exposure to outdoor temperatures whenever possible.
If your child needs assistance with winter clothing, please reach out to your school nurse for support.
Heat Advisory: Staying Safe During Extreme Heat
When temperatures rise to 90 degrees or more, it’s essential for students and staff to stay hydrated and take precautions to avoid heat-related illness. To ensure everyone's safety:
- Hydration is Key: Encourage students to drink water regularly, both in and outside of the classroom.
- Heat Exhaustion Warning: If anyone shows signs of heat exhaustion, move them to a cool area immediately and seek medical attention.
Additional Tips for Coping with Heat:
- Adjust Activities: Reduce or reschedule strenuous activities to the coolest parts of the day.
- Dress Light: Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing to reflect heat and sunlight.
- Eat Smart: Opt for light, cool, and easy-to-digest foods like fruits or salads.
- Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
