Marshfield R-I Virtual Instruction
Marshfield Virtual Program (MVP)
The Marshfield R-I School District offers a variety of 1st–12th grade courses in a virtual format. These courses are offered and facilitated by Marshfield teachers and instructors and can be an excellent option to meet the diverse needs of our students and families. All courses are aligned with the seated curriculum. MVP provides curriculum and instruction in a virtual format but is not a MOCAP-affiliated program.
Marshfield R-I open enrollment in virtual courses closes on the fifth academic day of the spring and fall semesters. Open enrollment for summer virtual courses closes five academic days prior to the start of the summer session. In order to be considered for MVP enrollment, a student must first complete district open enrollment and complete the MVP enrollment request form. Once district enrollment is complete, the student or parent should contact the Coordinator of Virtual Learning or the student’s counselor to receive the MVP request form.
Students taking courses virtually are subject to all district policies, procedures, and rules applicable to students enrolled in traditional courses, including but not limited to the district’s discipline code and prohibitions on academic dishonesty, discrimination, harassment, bullying, and cyberbullying.
When determining whether enrollment in a virtual course is the best educational decision for a student, the student and parent should consider the following:
-
The student has demonstrated time-management skills that indicate they can submit assignments and complete course requirements without reminders.
-
The student has shown persistence in overcoming obstacles and a willingness to seek assistance when needed.
-
The student has demonstrated verbal or written communication skills sufficient for success in an environment without nonverbal cues from instructors.
-
The student possesses the necessary computer or technical skills to succeed in a virtual course.
-
The student has reliable access to technology resources.
-
The student has previously been successful in virtual coursework.
Launch
Marshfield R-I Schools offer several online MOCAP courses through our Launch partnership with Springfield Public Schools, which provides a large variety of rigorous online courses for Kindergarten through 12th grade. Launch is the preferred MOCAP provider for Marshfield R-I.
-
Kindergarten–5th grade students will utilize Launch for all their virtual courses.
-
Launch courses are available to high school students if Marshfield does not offer the needed online course.
MOCAP
The Missouri Course Access and Virtual School Program (MOCAP) was established in 2007 as the state’s online school (previously known as the Missouri Virtual Instruction Program or MOVIP). MOCAP offers courses for Kindergarten through 12th grade. Students can access courses from any internet-connected device, 24/7. MOCAP's mission is to offer Missouri students equal access to high-quality courses and interactive online learning that is not bound by time or location.
HB 1552 & Full-Time MOCAP Enrollment
In the summer of 2022, House Bill 1552 was passed, defining a virtual student’s learning opportunities with MOCAP vendors. Key highlights include:
-
A full-time MOCAP student becomes a student of the host district (where the MOCAP vendor is located), rather than the resident district (Marshfield R-I).
-
Marshfield R-I students are disenrolled from the district when they enroll full-time with a MOCAP vendor and are then considered transfer students.
-
A student must first be enrolled in their resident district (Marshfield R-I) before enrolling in MOCAP.
-
A student who wishes to enroll full-time in a MOCAP program must notify their district of residence (Marshfield R-I) of their intent.
-
When a student enrolls in a MOCAP program, the host and resident districts may choose to collaborate on an Educational Services Plan for the student.
