5 Year Comprehensive School Improvement Plan 2026 - 2031

Introduction

This long-range plan provides a roadmap for the Marshfield R-I School District from 2026 to 2036. It reflects our district’s collective commitment to providing exceptional educational opportunities and preparing students for lifelong success. The purpose of the district’s long-range plan is to supplement the district’s CSIP and focus on the financial, facilities, and programs aspects of the district for the future.

Mission

The Marshfield R-1 School District will prepare each student for a successful future.

A collaborative and innovative school system, united with families and the community in a shared purpose to provide excellence in education for every student.

The district’s priorities are organized around six strategic focus areas related to the district’s facilities and operation. Each area connects to measurable goals and strategies that build Marshfield’s legacy of excellence.

Priority Area: New Buildings/Construction

New Hubble Building

Description
A new elementary building to replace our oldest building in the district.

Reasoning
Hubble Elementary, built in the 1960s, was not built for today’s electrical needs. It has many infrastructural needs that need to be improved. There is also a significant traffic issue in our district. Part of the reason for this is due to the proximity of the buildings to one another. Building a new “Hubble” in another site would help traffic flow.

Webster & Junior High Multipurpose Space

Description
This would be an open gym type of space for both buildings’ students to use.

Reasoning
This space would allow separation of boys/girls for JH. It would increase physical activity during inclement weather and would increase space for after school practices and evening events.

Football/Track Locker Room

Description
Changing area and bathrooms for Football/Track athletes and coaches.

Reasoning
Currently, this type of space does not exist. It would be ideal to have these types of spaces for our student-athletes at events and during practices.

Bus Barn

Description
New or renovated bus barn.

Reasoning
Our current bus barn is not big enough to handle our newest bus. Additionally, the district would like to have a lift to work on buses.

Shook Parking Lot

Description
Additional parking at Shook.

Reasoning
During any Shook event or activity, our current parking is not enough for the building.

Early Learning Center (ELC) Parking Lot

Description
Additional parking at ELC.

Reasoning
During construction, the district did not build all of the designated parking in order to be fiscally responsible with bond dollars. Additional parking would be a welcomed addition.

Board Room

Description
A space created for board meetings and district meetings.

Reasoning
Currently, the MHS library is used for board meetings. This can create conflicts when the space is being used for other events. Additionally, the space is not ideal for sound, presentation, and seating.

Working Barn/Ag Addition

Description
A continued expansion of the agriculture department to include a “working” barn to work with animals.

Reasoning
The long-range plan for our agriculture department includes the addition of this component.

Football/Track Storage

Description
The space under the bleachers has been identified as an area that could be used for a significant amount of storage.

Reasoning
Space will always be a premium for our district. Using the space that already exists for storage.

Priority Area: Renovations

MHS Cafeteria Bathrooms

Description
Updated bathrooms in our MHS cafeteria

Reasoning
These bathrooms are our most used bathrooms due to ball games and public events.

Softball Turf

Description
Artificial turf on the softball field.

Reasoning
This is the last field at the east complex to get a turf upgrade

ELC Drop Off Covering

Description
A covered area for drop off/pick up.

Reasoning
Our youngest Blue Jays do not have a covered area in bad weather for loading/unloading and need a little more time than just getting in the vehicle.

Auditorium Lobby

Description
The auditorium lobby is now pushing 25 years old and could use an update.

Reasoning
This is a major area for the public to see. It would be great to have an updated look.

High School Activity/Event Entrance

Description
A covered and finished space outside of the cafeteria doors.

Reasoning
This is a major public area for people to see on a regular basis.

Increased changing areas for theater

Description
Larger changing area for theater/music

Reasoning
This space can be a challenge when a production is particularly large.

Playground Upgrades w/ accessibility

Description
Updated playgrounds with new equipment and improved accessibility

Reasoning
Our playgrounds have not received a major upgrade in awhile. We also have accessibility issues at some of our playgrounds

Expanded High School Weight Room

Description
Increased square footage in the HS weight room.

Reasoning
HS weights classes are very large and it would be great to have more square footage to allow higher occupation and safer lifting.

Updated and Refreshed Spaces

Description
Continue to update/improve spaces as the need and funds are available.

Priority Areas: Maintenance

High Efficiency Upgrades

Description
Windows, HVAC, General energy efficiencies

Reasoning
Energy efficiency opportunities are a great way to improve operations and save money.

Continued Maintenance

Description
Major maintenance will be roofing, HVAC, asphalt, masonry

Reasoning
The district will continue to respond to maintenance needs as the needs arise and funding allows.

Webster Infrastructure Upgrade

Description
Improve sewer and water issues at Webster Elementary

Reasoning
There are frequent sewer issues at Webster because of the age of the line (and trees) that has to be cleared.

Priority Area: Security

Additional School Resource Officer

Description
3rd district SRO

Reasoning
A 3rd SRO would allow each SRO to have 2 buildings to focus on and provide more evening coverage for events as well.

Additional all day Pre-Kindergarten Classes

Description
More all-day PK opportunities

Reasoning
½ day PK makes it a challenge for some families to arrange transportation.

Career/Tech. Center

Description
Continue to find ways to offer more certification/job-related skills

Reasoning
Career/Tech centers have a tremendous purpose to prepare students for careers not requiring 4 year college degrees.

Expanded fine arts opportunities

Description
Continue to improve/expand fine arts opportunities throughout the district.

Magnet school

Description
Continue exploring possibilities to create a magnet school in the district that has a focus area to attract/retain students.

Reasoning
Magnet schools are a way to increase engagement and attract/retain students.
