Recently, students had the opportunity to learn directly from community presenters and professionals, exploring sessions that covered the gamut — from understanding credit scores and personal finance to learning how to crochet, and everything in between.
It was a fantastic day of hands-on learning, real-world skills, and student voice in action.

Real Life Skills
People often talk about the importance of schools teaching real-life skills. Having the opportunity to process venison is about as real as it gets.

FFA
Our FFA chapter enjoyed an exciting and eventful week, highlighted by two outstanding opportunities for students to learn, connect, and celebrate their passion for agriculture.
The week began with the Webster County Cattlemen’s Association Career Fair, where our students—along with members from several surrounding chapters—were able to meet ag professionals, explore diverse career pathways, and gain valuable insight into the future of the agriculture industry. Events like this help our students grow, discover their strengths, and build meaningful relationships within our local ag community. We are incredibly grateful to the Cattlemen’s Association for investing in the next generation of ag leaders.
The celebration continued at the FFA Barnwarming held at the Webster County Fairgrounds. Our officers did an exceptional job organizing a fun and memorable evening filled with dancing, games, and friendly competition. Students participated in Ag Olympics events, a truck pull, minute-to-win-it challenges, a bale flip, and the beloved Monkey Suit tradition that has entertained FFA members for more than 20 years. The night was packed with laughter, teamwork, and moments that students will remember for a lifetime.

Our FFA students are learning so much on their Louisiana agriculture industry tour! From swamp tours (yes, they saw alligators ) to seeing how rice is milled and sugar cane is harvested, they’re getting a firsthand look at agriculture beyond Missouri. They also toured the famous Tabasco Factory on Avery Island and explored Jungle Gardens — talk about a full day of learning and fun! So many miles, memories, and new experiences.

All Ag Science I students write an essay as part of our leadership unit, but these members took it a step further by refining, memorizing, and presenting their speeches in competition. They showed real initiative and growth — we are proud of their hard work!
Congratulations to:
-
Alex DeLeon – Teach Ag – Silver Rating
-
Ava Richardson – Quarter Horse – Silver Rating
-
Ella Taylor – Soil & Water – Silver Rating
Way to step out of your comfort zones and rise to the challenge!

Mid-Missouri Ag Ed Initiative
Recently, these Blue Jays had an incredible hands-on experience at the Mid-Missouri Ag Ed Initiative. The day began with educational rotations focused on feeder cattle grading, animal products, beef reproduction, palpating and aging cows, and the business side of the beef industry—including the vital role stockyards play in the process.
Afterward, students were paired with industry professionals and cattle buyers who guided them through the process of being a Stocker Cattle buyer. Each student was given a $3,500 budget to spend during a live auction, where nearly 100 head of cattle ran through the ring. Students had to make quick, strategic decisions to determine which purchases would yield the highest profit.
Their hard work paid off—Marshfield earned 1st place among schools in attendance, achieving the highest average profit per head!
A huge thank-you to all of the organizers, sponsors, and industry partners who made this valuable real-world learning opportunity possible.

Real-World Learning at the Mid-Missouri Stockyards
Students from our Animal Science and Ag Business classes are preparing for a unique hands-on learning experience at the Mid-Missouri Stockyards.
Through a program created by Josh Arl of Mid Missouri Bank, high school agricultural students will have the opportunity to act as cattle buyers for a Beef Stocker/Backgrounding Operation. During the event, cattle will enter the sale ring just like a real auction. Each student will receive a set budget and will work alongside industry professionals who will mentor them through the bidding process.
More than 200 students from surrounding agricultural programs are expected to participate in this exciting, real-world simulation.
To get ready for the event, representatives from Mid Missouri Bank and the Mid-Missouri Stockyards visited our classrooms to provide background on the program, explain the budgeting tools students will use, and even give a crash course in auctioneering.
This authentic learning experience connects classroom lessons to real-life applications in the agriculture industry—helping students gain valuable insight, confidence, and career readiness.

Seven Marshfield FFA students have been selected to participate in the Public Speaking Academy at the University of Central Missouri! Over the next few days, they’ll dive into leadership and communication workshops, learning from state FFA Officers and Missouri’s FFA staff.
In addition to sharpening their public speaking skills, they’ll get a taste of college life, meet fellow FFA students from across Missouri, and build lasting connections.
A huge thank you to our Booster Club for generously covering the full cost of this experience for our students!
